Agrico presents annual figures 2018/2019 with the highest payments to members ever

Emmeloord, 23 December 2019. Agrico held its central general members’ meeting last week. At this well attended meeting, aspects including the annual figures 2018/2019 were discussed.

The 2018/2019 financial year was characterised by extremes. Extreme drought and heat resulted in a limited potato harvest in Europe. As a result, the prices for potatoes were good and Agrico was able to sell almost all the seed potatoes it produced for a good price. The table potato market also remained very stable. As a result, a high dividend (+20% compared with last year) could be paid to Agrico members and contract growers in France, Scotland and Poland. The record turnover in seed potatoes was 248 million euros (+10%). Due to the high prices, the turnover of table potatoes rose by almost 49% to 64 million euros. The national and international subsidiaries accounted for 25% of the turnover.

The number of complaints was halved thanks to the results achieved by the Agrico Quality Center, which was opened in the 2018/2019 financial year. The quality of the delivered product remains an absolute priority for Agrico and its members.

Agrico paid out the realised payment capacity almost completely to its members in the 2018/2019 financial year. The extent of equity is linked to financial key figures with the principle being continuity and a healthy financial status. Strengthening the equity was therefore limited.

In addition to the annual figures, the members were also informed about the current organisational status and the implementation of the new Agrico 2030 strategy. In this new strategy, Agrico has set ambitious goals for the future based on the many opportunities for growth in the market. This has led to substantial growth in the number of roles and the number of employees at the organisation who are required to realise all the plans.

The formal session was followed by an very interesting presentation given by European agricultural journalist Jacques van Outryve entitled: ‘Will Europe feed the world or vice versa?’ In his presentation, van Outryve addressed all the on-going and future developments in the agricultural sector.
